JIS B 0255:1998 (R2003)

This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the limit gauges to be used for the dimensional inspection of metric screw threads specified in JIS B 0210 and JIS B 0212, and the gauges to be used for checking. The limit gauges and the check gauges are simply referred to as 'gauges'. Other inspection methods, for example, the measurement by the indicating instrument may to used, but the inspection shall be effected using the gauges in accordance with this Standard. This Standard intends to specify the means to discriminate the work piece screw in the tolerance from others. The following principles shall be used to ensure the interchangeability of the workpiece screws, and to avoid any dispute between the manufacturer and the purchaser. a) The manufacturer shall not ship any workpiece screws whose screw dimensions (for example, the single pitch diameter and the total pitch diameter) are out of the specified tolerances. b) The purchaser shall not reject any workpiece screws whose screw dimensions (for example, the single pitch diameter and the total pitch diameter) are within the specified tolerances. To satisfy these two principles, this Standard specifies the classes and dimensions of the gauges required for the inspection of screws, conditions for using these screws, and the inspection of the workpiece screws.
