This standard is applicable in connection with VG 88717-2 to the packing frames of the modular packing system used in shipbuilding to create penetrations for electric cables and for pipes. The structure of the ship is thus fitted with openings in places where pipes or electric cables are to be fed through. The packing frames are fitted into these openings, and together with the packing system components they serve as a sealing means and adapter for the fed-through pipes or electric cables. Such packing frames are hereinafter referred to as 'frames'.
