This generic standard is applicable in conjunction with DIN EN 60670-1 (VDE 0606-1):2005-10and the relevant detail standard for surface-mounted casings, i.e. casings for installation on the mounting area and intended to accommodate electrical apparatus, such as switch inserts, socket-outlet inserts and connection terminals. They are used indoors and outdoors on vessels. Surface-mounted casings according to this standard are mountable side by side in all directions. Surface-mounted casings according to this standard are hereinafter referred to as casings in short. This generic specification includes the general requirements and provisions. It contains information as far as unchanging engineering requirements and test conditions are involved, i.e. properties and provisions that apply to the respective components as well as general procedures, matters of liability, patent law, etc. The detail specification specifies the technical requirements and tests applicable for the respective components. If data of the detail specification differ from those given in the generic specification, data of the detail specification apply. The casings according to this standard are suitable for alternating current voltages up to and including 1 kV or for direct current voltages up to and including 1,5 kV.
