The standard specifies a test method for determining the resistance of a coating against scratching with a manual hardness pen under load. The test can be carried out using a sherical scribing tool (method A) or a dic-shaped scribing tool (method B). Both methods are generally applicabel and can be used in teh files and on curved surfaces. Method A can also be used on small test samples (minimum size 30 mm x 50 mm). The test can be used as a pass-fail test (test requirement I) or as a classification test (test requirement II).
