This standard gives requirements particular to vibration measurement near railway systems. This standard specifies a method of measuring mechanical vibration generated by railway vehicles on tracks and which is transmitted to the track system. It deals with measurements at the source, along the propagation path and at the receiver. These measurements can be carried out in conjunction with the planning, construction and operation of railway systems. Based on the measurement results, the following tasks can be considered: - assessment of existing situations according to regulations and measurements at the immission site, i.e. exposure of human beings, buildings and sensitive equipment, - proofing of existing emission or immission situations, - vibration immission prognosis for different situations in the system source - transmission - receiver, - determination of the effectiveness of vibration reducing measures at the source, in the transmission path or at the receiver. Further, this standard comprises the determination of vibration-relevant soil characteristics, such as pressure wave propagation speed, shear wave propagation speed, Rayleigh wave propagation speed, shear modulus, modulus of elesticity and damping. They are useful for calculation of vibration propagation, e. g. for a prognosis.
